Week with the Grandkids

What a busy couple of weeks.  After leaving Portland, Art retired home but I went to see Dr, Mrs Dr, Dude, Princess,  Honey Bunch, and Megaman ( and Lilly the dog).  We had a blast.  We did so many things the time just flew by.  When I first arrived Dr was gone.  He was in California taking his boards.  He returned in time for Mother's Day.  He took extra care of me and Mrs Dr.  We had a great waffle breakfast with all kinds of fruit and Dude and Princess made scrambled eggs. Then we had a delicious roast dinner. It was so good.

Some of the activities we did:  We went to the neighborhood picnic, went for pizza and bowling, played hide and go seek (several times), went to Honey Bunches school program (one of the best I have ever been to), Went to Dude's field day ( he is an excellent runner), saw Megamans perform in his school Circus (he was the lion) had a birthday party for Megaman ( he is now 4).  Had a sleep over in the basement.  We watched a movie and Mrs Dr made popcorn.  Mrs Dr went to the temple and a women's conference.  Princess sang a duet with a friend in church ( it was great).  In addition to all of that, I went with Mrs Dr to do her regularly scheduled events.  Mrs Dr is one busy lady.  I can't believe how quickly the time passed but I had such a great time.  I know I am leaving stuff out as it was a whirlwind. Thanks Kids!!!!

The Weekend Away

What a fun weekend art and I have had. It all started on Friday morning. MK and Miss R dropped us off at the airport. We went to Portland for the weekend. We had a blast. Let me share the events. When we landed, picked up the rental car, made a quick stop at Costco and went to the Taylor's(my sister, brother in law, nephew, niece in law and baby) We met baby WET. What a doll! He is soooo sweet. Baby WET's mom was so generous to share him and I loved holding him. We visited for a few hours then hurried off to meet with Art's sister from another mother.....Barb. We visited at her house with her, her daughter, two granddaughters, and her partner Ron. What a great visit we had and really appreciated her daughter and granddaughters coming in to town to visit with us. They are awesome. Barb prepared some snacks and beverages. Then Barb and Ron took Art and I to the MAC for a yummy dinner. Ron recently retired as the Treasurer from the MAC. After dinner Ron gave us a tour of the facility. WOW! It is an insane facility.......just incredible. Then back to Barb's for a nightcap. What a great visit and thanks to Ron and Barb. Saturday we went to the Taylor's for a yummy waffle and egg breakfast. Then off to Spirit Mountain for a fun filled day. We gamble our hearts out. My sister was the big winner of the day. She played the penny slots and mad a haul. Baby WET and his parents joined us for dinner. My sister paid for dinner with a small portion of her winnings. She did so awesome and I was so thrilled for her. What a fun time we all had. That night we went to the games show show. We all had a good time. Sunday we went to conference with my sister and brother in law. They reorganized their stake so the had one of the 12 apostles and an area seventy come. I enjoyed it immensely. My sister was released from her calling. I think it is a little bittersweet for her but heavy on the sweet. My brother law grilled yummy steaks and we visited until it was time to head back to the hotel. We returned the rental car and checked in a hotel right by the airport. This is just the highlights without a lot of detail but I am leaving at 4:15 am so I better get some sleep.

How Children Perceive Their Grandparents

 1.    She was in the bathroom, putting
on her makeup, under the watchful
eyes of her young granddaughter,
as she'd done many times before.
After she applied her lipstick and
started to leave, the little one
said, "But Grandma, you forgot to
kiss the toilet paper good-bye!"
I will  probably never put lipstick
on again without thinking about
kissing the toilet paper good-bye....

2. My young grandson called the
other day to wish me Happy
Birthday.  He asked me how old
I was, and I told him, 80.
 My grandson was quiet for
a moment, and then he asked,
 "Did you  start at 1?"

3. After putting her grandchildren

to bed, a grandmother changed
into old slacks and a droopy blouse
and proceeded to wash her hair.
As she  heard the children getting
more and  more rambunctious,
her patience grew thin.  Finally,
she threw a towel around
her head and stormed into
 their room, putting them back
to bed with stern warnings.
As she left the room,
she heard the three-year-old
say with a trembling voice,
"Who was THAT?"

4. A grandmother was telling

her little granddaughter what
her own  childhood was like.
"We used to skate outside on
a pond.   I had a swing made
from a tire; it hung from
a tree in our front yard.
We rode our pony.  We picked
wild raspberries in the woods."
The little girl was wide-eyed,

taking this all in.  A t last
she said, "I sure wish I'd
gotten to know you
sooner!"

5.  My grandson was visiting

one day when he asked,
"Grandma, do you know
how you and God
are alike?" I mentally
polished my halo and
 I said, "No, how
are we alike?''  "You're
both old," he replied.

6. A little girl was diligently

pounding away on her
grandfather's word processor.
She told him she was writing
a story. "What's it about?"
he asked.  "I don't know,"
she replied. "I can't read."

7.  I didn't know if my

granddaughter had learned
her colors yet, so I decided
to test her.  I would point out
something and ask what color
it was.  She would tell me and
was always correct.  It was fun
for me, so   I continued.  A t last,
she headed for the door, saying,
"Grandma, I think you should try
to figure out some of these colors
yourself!"

8. When my grandson Billy

and I entered our vacation
cabin,  we kept the lights
off until we were inside to
keep from attracting pesky
 insects.   Still, a few fireflies
 followed us in.  Noticing
them before I did,
Billy whispered, "It's no
use Grandpa.  Now the
mosquitoes are coming after
us with flashlights."

9. When my grandson asked

me how old I was, I teasingly
replied, "I'm not sure."
"Look in your underwear, Grandpa,"
he advised  "Mine says I'm 4 to 6."

10.. A second grader came home

from school and said to her
grandmother, "Grandma, guess
what?  We learned how to make
babies today."  The grandmother,
more than a little surprised,
tried to keep her cool. "That's
 interesting." she said...  "How
do you make babies?"
"It's simple," replied the girl.

"You just change 'y' to 'i' and
add 'es'."

11. Children's Logic: "Give me a

sentence about a public servant,"
said a teacher. The small boy wrote:
"The fireman came down the ladder
pregnant."   The teacher took the
lad aside to correct him.
"Don't you know what pregnant
means?" she asked. "Sure," said the
 young boy confidently. 'It means
carrying a child."

12. A grandfather was delivering

his grandchildren to their home
one day when a fire truck zoomed
past.  Sitting in the front seat of
the fire truck was a Dalmatian dog.
The children started discussing
the dog's duties. "They use him
to keep crowds back," said
one child. "No," said another.
"He's just  for good luck.."
A third child brought the
argument to a close."They
use the dogs," she said firmly,
"to find the fire hydrants."

13. A 6-year-old was asked

where his grandma lived.
"Oh," he said, "she lives
at the airport, and when
we want her, we just go get her.
Then, when we're done having
her visit, we take her back
to the airport."

14. Grandpa is the smartest man

on earth!  He teaches me good
things, but I don't get to see him
enough to get as smart as him!

15. My Grandparents are funny,

when they bend over,  you  hear
gas leaks and they blame their dog.

Uh...Oops!!

The lumber package came today.  Very exciting!!! I thought this was a good day as this is the framing package.   But this was a very bad day for the driver of the lumber.  He accidentally hit the gutter at the corner of the house. Oh dear.....at least he wiped out the gutter and not the house. Poor Art has a lot of work ahead of him now.  He just got one more project added on.  Good thing he is so good natured......

My New Swimming Pool

As you all know I have been wanting a swimming pool for some time.  Well with all the rain we have been and are receiving, the foundation hole is filling with water.  I don't think I want to swim in it though.  I guess next time, I had better specify what kind of pool I want.

Foundation in the Works

The concrete guys came yesterday and poured the footings for the foundation.  They are here today to pour the stem walls.  Oh listen to me,  don't I just sound like I know what I am talking about?  HA HA HA.  It is all talk.  Anyway it is looking good.  Art is on top of it and making sure it is all going as planned.  He makes a good contractor.  This retirement gig is awesome.  It is all exciting.

We also got new windows yesterday in the basement. Two in the family room and one in the game room.  They look good.  I will post pictures later, once I get the poofies back up.  But trust me it look a million billion times better.  The fireplace will get done next week.  Everyday we make progress.  Here are photos of the process so far.

MK Conquers Robie

Today was the Robie's half marathon.  It is a treacherous 13 mile race over Aldape summit.  To add insult to injury the race started at noon with the temperature over 80 degrees.  My hat off to MK, she did it.  I am so proud of her.  She did it in about 2 hours and 43 minutes.  To put it in perspective.  Miss R and I drove there.  It took us 1 hour and 50 minutes.

I had the pleasure to go with MK and Miss R to the starting point.  After the race started Miss R, another runners wife and I went and picked up burgers and fries and headed to the finish line.  We drove most of the way and then hopped on a bus to go the rest of the way. We had a little picnic at the finish line and waited for MK.  I thought the race was well organized.  I was warned by several folks to be prepared to wait in long lines but we didn't have to wait long at all.

Way to go MK... you did awesome!!!!
